Applied Kinesiology

Applied Kinesiology (AK) is a system that was developed by Dr. George Goodheart in 1964 which evaluates structural, biochemical and mental/emotional aspects of an individuals health. AK primarily uilizes manual muscle testing techniques and responses to biofeedback and other neurologic stimulation as a means to uncover imbalance in the body. Improved muscle function and balance that occurs during treatment results in improved joint stability, which allows chiropractic adjustments to be more effective and last longer.

We also use standard methods of diagnosis, such as laboratory testing, physical examination, orthopedic testing and other techniques to evaluate and moniter imbalances found in the body using AK techniques. AK looks to the inherent relationships of certain groups of muscles and specific internal organs or systems to give the doctor an "inside look" at a potential problem. Utilizing the neurological relationship between skeletal muscle and internal organ systems, AK offers a non-invasive means of evaluating body function. This is unique in alternative healthcare. AK allows the doctor to treat your body as an individual instead of using a "one size fits all" type of approach as is found generally in healthcare.

Treatments can involve any combination of the following: specific joint manipulation or mobilization, various myofascial therapies, reflex point procedures, cranial techniques, meridian and acupuncture correlations, clinical nutritional recommendations, dietary guidance/education, lifestyle counselling, and evaluation of environmental irritants.AK is a diagnositc system that incorporates knowledge and treatment protocols involved and developed in many healthcare diciplines including: Chiropractic, Naturopathic, Osteopathy, Acupuncture, Biochemistry, Psychology, Dentistry, and more. AK is practiced by many types of doctors worldwide and is being recognized more and more for its unique and effective treatment of a patient.
